Guest Kristen Mitchell speaks on DCS at April Meeting

Presenting at our club meeting this month was 2nd Lieutenant Kristen Mitchell from the Langley Air Force Base Aerospace Physiology Department.

Kristen's presentation covered the  common types of  decompression sickness, their causes, how DCS impacts scuba divers, and how to prevent it.

Ms. Mitchell also explained DCS symptoms that all divers should be aware of such as pain in joints, tingling or itching skin, chest pain, cough, flashing / flickering lights, partial paralysis,  blind spots and delirium, to name a few.  Treatment of DCS includes 100% oxygen therapy, immobilize affected area, seeking medical assistance,
