New York Dive Trip to the St Lawrence Seaway planned for July 4th

Last November, club members enjoyed a wonderful diving trip to the St. Lawrence Seaway.  The trip is being scheduled again this year for the 4th of July weekend (July 3 - 7).

One of the more memorable dives of the trip was on the Steam Ship Islander which caught fire and sank around 1890.

The Islander was a side wheel steam vessel used for carrying mostly passengers and mail.  She was approximately 125 feet in length with a 20 foot beam, built around 1875.

The wreck is lying about 20 yards from the shore and ranges from about 30 feet to a maximum of 63 feet deep.

She is in excellent condition for a wreck this old.  You can see the shaft blocks for the paddle wheels, crankshaft, rods and part of the engine.  Also notable are the hand carved beams.

Slide Presentation at our next club meeting

Jim Cook and Patricia Clancy will be presenting a slide show on their recent diving trip to Coco View Resort in Roatan, Honduras .

This  is sure to be an enjoyable presentation that you won't want to miss.

Situated 35 miles off the north coast of Honduras the Bay Islands are an extension of Honduras' Sierra de Omoa mountain range. Roatan is approximately 30 miles long, a mile wide, and has a population approaching 30,000. There is one main paved road. Major towns are Coxen Hole (Roatan City), French Harbour, and Oak Ridge, all on the island's many-harbored south shore.  Roatan is only a 2 hour flight from Houston or Miami.
