At our last club meeting, Jim Cook announced the election of Bob Shourot by SSI as a Platinum Pro 5000 Diver.

Few divers will ever reach this highly prestigious level of certification.  Only the most committed to the sport can accomplish over 5000 dives.

In fact, this level can only be received by application and review by the Platinum Pro 5000 Committee which consists of SSI,

Ginnie Springs / Manatee  Florida Trip, Feb. 16 - 19

The Ginnie Spring basin is a large, bowl-shaped depression measuring over 100 feet across and 15 feet deep.

A 150-foot long run connects the basin to the nearby Santa Fe River. The chief attraction here is the Ginnie cavern, whose wide, open entrance can be found at the bottom of the

basin. Ginnie cavern is among the handful of sites that experts consider sufficiently safe to allow exploration by divers who lack formal cavern or cave diver training.  Certified divers of all experience levels may take lights into the water with them at Ginnie Spring and use these lights to explore the underwater cavern. Divers who follow the

posted guidelines should be able to enjoy nearly the same degree of safety inside Ginnie Cavern as they experience when diving in open water.   This provides an excellent opportunity to get a taste of what cavern and cave diving are all about.
