New Retail Manager in Newport News

Most of you already know Shawn Quinn from the Hampton store.  Shawn has been promoted to Retail Manager of the Newport News Store.  For those of you who have not met Shawn, here is a little background on him.  Shawn joined up with Bob Shourot in 1998 when he stopped in to take a diving course.  Shawn was in the U.S. Navy at the time and was looking toward his retirement.  Bob saw the makings of a top notch instructor and set Shawn on the path for his future.

Traveling, he spent the next six months training under PADI Instructors in the Persian Gulf.  Upon his return to Virginia, he was a certified Rescue Diver.  Bob wasted no time enrolling him into the Dive Master / Instructor course.  Needless to say, this course was not a "cake walk" and required a lot of hard work and dedication, not to mention patience on Bob's part.  Shawn retired from the Navy on July 1st of 2000 and started instructing full time.  Shawn has worked his way up to Advanced Dive Instructor and is now working on becoming a Dive Control Specialist Instructor.

Things have been hopping in Newport News with his arrival.  There are many manager specials, and a great big box of goodies for a raffle.  The box is worth well over $400.00.  Tickets are only $2.00 per chance, and you can buy 15 chances for only $10.00.  The drawing of the winner will be by a DIVEMASTERS Association member after all chances are sold.  Stop by and say hello.

Scuba Rangers Program for young folks interested in diving

The Scuba Rangers program will be starting at Underwater Adventures on April 7, 2001

Scuba Schools International (SSI) has developed the most innovative scuba program for children ever.  The program, called Scuba Rangers, is a perfect way to build tomorrow's divers by getting children ages 8-11 interested in snorkeling and scuba diving.

There are five fun-filled Ranger levels:  Red, White, Blue, Silver, and Demo, where the children practice basic scuba skills and  learn to  dive under the  supervision  of SSI Instructors.  Upon reaching Demo Ranger, the children proudly demonstrate their underwater skills to family and friends.

Scuba Rangers is also an activities club, where the children return frequently to the dive facility for more fun.  Rangers participate in pool "specialties" such as navigation, photography, and "night" diving.  Rangers take field trips to aquariums, movies and confined water for snorkeling and SASY (Supplied Air Snorkeling).  SSI Dive Leaders

supervise all Scuba Ranger water activities.

If you have young family members that are interested in joining the Scuba Rangers program, please contact Chris Shourot at 826-3945.

Instructors and assistants are also needed to help with classes held every Saturday from 4:30 to
8:30 p.m.  If you would like to participate, contact
Chris Shourot.
