The 2004 annual club cookout was held on June 28- 29 at Lake Rawlings and was enjoyed by all the attendants.
Pleasant weather and mild temperatures allowed for enjoyment of the activities, as well as the good food at the cookout. There were diving activities, such as navigation courses and a treasure hunt and our new Capture the Flag underwater contest.
Three prizes were awarded for the navigation challenge in the categories of "Best Time," "Best Air," and "Most correct Answers." Winning those categories were Neil Suesz, Tom Mylum, and David Burris respectively.

For the treasure hunt, there were prize markers to locate and retrieve. Every marker had a prize associated with it, so everyone that retrieved a marker was a guaranteed winner!
Introduced this year was our underwater Capture the Flag contest. Participants are divided into two opposing teams (Red & Blue) each with its own Team Flag to guard.
The flag for each team is anchored deep within their territory, and the object of the game is to infiltrate the opposing team's territory, capture their flag, and return it to your own territory without being caught yourself.

Each diver wears, on the back of their tank, a smaller flag displaying their team's colors.
Taking an invading diver prisoner is accomplished by snatching that diver's flag, and sending him out of the game, without losing your own tank flag.
Each team places one or two divers 15 feet away from the team's flag to act as guards, but at any time these guards can go on the offensive and enter the opposing team's territory. However, once across the dividing line between the territories, they too can be captured by enemy divers!

This year's victory goes to the RED team. Congratulations to the winners. Their names will be added to the Capture the Flag winner's plaque on display at Underwater Adventures and each will receive one additional attendance wild card.
And of course, what would a cookout be without good food and the wonderful efforts of our chefs and all those helping with the food. The DMAV would like to extend a special thanks to Ed & Sharon Acton, Jim & Anne Ervin, Bob Miller, Darrel Hubberd, Neil Suesz, and all of the volunteers for their significant effort in helping to make the DMAV 2004 Cookout a wonderful success. Next year, let's target for 100% participation of all members!
